Sometimes, the components you want to use in your schematic may not be in the KiCad library. Even though you can always find KiCad components on the Internet, it wouldn’t hurt to know how to create a component yourself, it’s quite easy 😉
In this tutorial, we will create an NE555 timer from this datasheet. Just as in this post, we will create a new project and in it, our new component. We will then add it to our very own library as shown in the video below.
Everytime you need to use a component that you’ve created yourself, don’t forget to ensure that the component appears under Component library files and the component’s path also appears under your paths list. This can be found in the Eeschema window, under ‘Preferences’ then ‘Components Libraries’.
Remember, all the information required to create a new component can be found in the component’s datasheet. This information can be like the pin’s electrical type which is vital for the correct working of a simulation involving the component
